"Man-Catcher" Brownies

Found this recipe on a forum. The name of these brownies were worth trying out...
The recipe made a thick fudgy chocolaty brownie. Dee-lish! They taste better the next day.

"Man-Catcher" Brownie Recipe
12 ounces (3 sticks) unsalted butter
2 cups cocoa powder, sifted (natural or Dutch process)
6 eggs
2 cups sugar
2 cups packed light brown sugar
2 tablespoons vanilla extract
2 cups flour1 teaspoon kosher salt

Preheat oven to 350. Melt butter in saucepan, remove from heat and add cocoa (I used dutch process and it made them very dark and rich), cool slighty. Whisk eggs, sugar, vanilla and add to chocolate mix. Gradually add flour and salt. Spread batter into 13x 9 pan (lined w/ parchment paper or aluminum foil) and buttered. Bake 40-45 minutes until crust forms on top.

Chinese Menu Translations

I really enjoy seeing some of the Chinese menus translated into English. What are they using to do the translations? I can understand spelling errors but some of the translations are hilarious.

YAK anyone?

My friend was in western China last year and went to eat at a Tibetan restaurant. She sent me a picture of a page of the menu: (sorry it's a blurry. )

If you are interested in what caterpillar fungus is exactly, here are two websites that have some very interesting information and pictures:

Rolo Cookies To Die For...

I got this from my co-worker, MLR. It's chewy and chocolaty...
I usually get around 110 or so cookies with this recipe.

5 Cups Flour
1 Cup Cocoa
2 tsp Baking Soda
2 Cups Sugar
2 Cups Brown Sugar
2 Cups Butter (softened) or Margarine
2 tsp vanilla extract
4 Eggs
10 pkgs of Rolo candies, approx.
about 100 chocolate melting wafers

Preheat oven to 375F. Cream butter, add sugars, cocoa and eggs and mix; add vanilla extract. Stir in dry ingredients. Shape 1 Tablespoon of dough around 1 unwrapped rolo candy. Place in baking sheet 2 inches apart and bake for 8-10 min (I never bake it longer than 8 minutes). Place 1 chocolate melting wafer on each cookie as soon as they come out of the oven; spread when melted. Let cookie cool 5 minutes before removing to rack to cool further.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

What better way to start the new year than with pictures of food that we ate over the Christmas holidays. We were quite diligent in taking pictures at first but then, being the food-lovers that we are, we eventually forgot all about the picture taking and focused on the eating.

Enjoy...

Har Gow aka Shrimp Dumpling - Very nice to eat at U & ME Restaurant in Calgary; go at lunch during Dim Sum. The next three pictures are from the same restaurant.

Ja Leong aka Chinese donut in Rice Wrap - I almost forgot to take a picture, that's why it's half eaten.

Eggplant/ Salted Fish in Rice Wrap - One of a kind only at this restaurant... loved it so much I forgot to take a picture... therefore also half eaten.

Chicken Feet - What can I say? A Dim Sum staple. So tasty...

A wonderful Korean meal that included a korean style chicken stew, Chap Che - Korean stir fried noodles and a beef and rice cake dish. Can't get this at a restaurant. Our Friend, HYS cooked this authentic and delicious meal.

We went for Sushi at a restaurant called Maruju. It's on Center Street N, in Calgary. They have $1 Sushi/ Sashimi, and the pieces are pretty huge and fresh.

Their Spider Rolls (Soft Shelled Crab) are amazing, and the price is great compared to other restaurants. I think it's under $9.

Last but not least, the Uni, aka Sea Urchin. It's one of the most expensive sushi if not the most, and it's one of my favorites.

Like I said, after a while we forgot to take pictures so this is all we have for now. Have a happy New Year and Eat Well!
